The being

Who I am
Is not my choice
Who I am
Is not a mistake

In me flows the great Nile
I am the Hills and Valleys of Rwanda
My soul is the great plains of the Serengethi
I’m am Africa personified

Many have lived and passed on
Many of my ancestors paved the way
The path I follow today
My head held up high with pride

I am the Moor that conquered Spain
I’m the child of the soil
My being, my soul is intact
The Africa in me keeps me sane

As the Black History Month grinds on
I imbibe motherland’s great knowledge from her children
As each one teaches one
I’m reminded of my greatness
